One thing that I started thinking about recently is that while it makes sense to equip slaves with armor and weapons for things such as the arena, they wouldn't be wearing it all the time and equipping/unequipping also doesn't make that much sense if you're training slaves in specific gear.
Would it work to modify the equipment list to have a "combat set" of items that would have their own tab and a normal set for other use.
It has a more realistic reason in that even in war, medieval knights wouldn't always be wearing their armor, they'd put it on for battle and then take it back off. It was heavy, expensive, and if you weren't fighting then it wasn't that useful to wear it.
Separating it out would also allow for more variation in combat gear as it wouldn't directly compete against non-combat ones. You might have that heavy plate armor for your slave ready for combat and a shrine maidens dress for out of it while working for a more Paladin type slave in their combat abilities.
And if the same is done with assistants, it would help splitting the choices to allow them to be better at other things than just one focus at a time.
It would also add a bit of depth to the methods of training and equipping.
A further thing could be to modify the battle skills slightly.
Have the basic combat abilities on all slaves, just not the specializations we currently have. Each of the current versions (Eva Pilot, Commander, ect...) would take up a slot, but not the basic (after all, some training would be standard for everyone and perhaps swap Special on it for Endurance or the like which adds more health in combat. Then have each specialized version be entirely focused on additional abilities.
That does mean that a fully trained slave would take more work, but at the same time allows a bit more variation and interaction.
For example, combat training can mix with faith healer to allow a Paladin style.
