2 questions and some suggestions for each
Q1:How long are you exploring for?
Maybe base the amount of time exploring takes on the number of encounters or levels you visit (example: 3 encounters = 1 shift). You could also include an item like camping supplies that allows you to rest and regain life (maid's cooking skill can increase how much).
Q2: What are my other slaves going to be doing while I am exploring?
I think you should have to put them in the Pens unless you leave an assistant to watch over them. Would be nice if you could plan the day ahead of time and leave that as a schedule for your assistant to follow. Of course that might be easier to do with a calendar system.

I'm still not perfectly clear in my own mind how time during exploration is going to end up. But the rooms remeber what you did the day before and that will keep on going.

Possibly needing a slight modification that when you're out and possess an extra assistant, she uses the room you usually do.
With time, one thing that might work is that you get more out of successive uses.
That could make it work that it covers the time to the wild the first time and each time immediately after it has more use out of it. Add normally forcing you back at the night period (Perhaps allowing a single time).
Perhaps take the camping gear idea and make it so that you can spend the night in the woods and let you stay there.
But while you're in the woods, you can't really change things with the slaves you had back at your home.
