Kenki and a few other people have mentioned that the background in the slide show is more distracting and actually doesn't help. I thought it was nice because it made all the pictures appear to be the same size. On the other hand it creates a lot of problems with layering. I can work through these I'm sure though. So its more of a UI presentation question.
Keep it or Kill it.
I would have posted a pic but my current build is... messed up.

I'm not sure what you mean by "slide show". Is this in the main game, or one of the demos?

The slideshowbackground that daisy is referring to is the white background in my attached pic. In the current builds, its the orange background with the knot. Ideally, all pics should be in a 4:3 ratio, and you should never see the background. Unfortunately, some of the pics included for the girls are not that ratio and you see the background. What was suggested, was simply removing the background and letting the event pics pop up on their own. Hopefully still bound by the dimensions of the slideshowbackground, Attachments:

I Think the distaction came from too many color from buttons and background at the same time on the screen, so you can not focus to the slideshow image. My suggestion is just add another layer of semi transparent black color between the slideshow image and the background so the slideshow image will stand out more. Attachment pic related. Attachments:

would also be nice if pics without a background, like yoko above, where cleaned pngs. or given back ground because the white on tan is bad.

I'd say just kill the background. For pictures that need it, it would be easy enough to gimp a 5 pixel border onto the image
Or are the same images used in other contexts where that might not look so good?

redcape, I thought about the layer of semi-black, its a good idea, Helps to bring attention to image. Hopefully, when moving to other images/events, the semi-black doesn't flash--being hidden/shown/hidden/etc.
