How about making generic NPCs like your typical boy,girl,old man,woman.. you can talk and get trivial information from them about Magmell and its culture or maybe sometimes get a quest hint and hints about secret items. These NPCs could be find and be talked to in new places like market place, tavern, park etc.
Here is my initial suggestion for new places and its NPCs (might add more later): Marketplace Accessible: Morning, Afternoon NPCs: Woman, Boy, Girl, Man, Old Man, Old Woman, Elven man/woman, Merchant, Guard, Spherian Sell: Ingredients for cooking (such as vegetable, meat) Quest: Side quest for money/items
Flea Market Accessible: Random each 1 - 5 days NPCs: Man, Woman, Shady figure, Nomad, Merchant, Elf, Spherian Sell: Rare items and equipment Quest: Quest for rare items or lots of money
Tavern Accessible: Evening, Night NPCs: Man, Whore, Shady figure, Barkeep, Guard Sell: Liquor Quest: Side quest for money/items
Elven Lodge Accessible: Morning, Afternoon, Evening NPCs: Elven man/woman, Merchant Sell: Elven items and equipment Quest: Side quest for money/items
Basically to talk to generic NPCs is like to talk with Important NPCs using Talk command (button). A new button will pop up indicating which one you want to talk to, after talking the button will disappear. The amount and type of NPCs to be talked to can also be randomized so for example, you can go to the market place everyday and never have to talk with the same generic NPC.
