Heya! I finally got inpatient and wanted to tryout the current svn version. But heck - I can't make the game run ... my otherworld.swf doesn't give me more than "Initializing..." By the way... why don't you ease things for svn downloaders up a lot and add a project file to allow batch compilation of all those 'fla's? Do flash project files only work locally? I dunno. If you don't know what I'm babbling about, I'll explain.

First off, I'll warn you, the SVN version is broken, right now. You can build it, but as soon as you try to buy a girl, it stalls. Doc is wrestling with that beast as we speak. (Based on the comments attached to his updates, it's proving to be a real bear.) In other words, people have a lot of working parts, but they're struggling to put them together, at the moment, so even if you get it working, there's not much to see, right now.
If you still want to try building it, however, there are two ways to do it.
1) Track down all of the various FLA files used by the game (I think that's all of the FLA files in the "Assistant", "girls", and "people" directories, plus the title_screen.fla from the main directory) and build each of those ("Control" -> "Test Movie"), one by one. It's time consuming, but you should only need to do it once. After that, simply build the main "otherworld.fla" file (also in the main directory) any time you want to test the game.
2) Start a new project ("Window" -> "Other Panels" -> "Project") and select all of the FLA files used by the game (see above), then click the "Test Project" button.
A word of warning, however: if you're using CS4, option 2 won't work, because a few of the girls' files were saved in CS5, and CS4 can't open them ... and if it can't open them, it can't build them. This is still true for option 1, but you can get around that by copying over the SWF files (the pre-compiled files) from the latest released version of the game. Yes, they're old, but I'm pretty sure those files haven't been changed all that much, since most of the changes are to the ActionScript, not to the FLA files, themselves. (They may even be growing redundant, with so much being shifted over to XML and external files, but things are kind of in a state of flux, right now, so I'm not entirely sure where they stand, at the moment.)

Hey, compuscribe. Option 2 is what I did. (Thats why I asked, why you don't have a project file that would make it possible automatically build with one click) The CS5-only girls drove me a headache too, yesterday... took me some while to find out what CS4 wanted to tell me with "Unexpected file format" or whatever it kept saying, aborting the whole building process at an untold file. The CS5 Trial helped... And filtering out those that had scripting errors causing the compilation process to abort. Apart from a broken svn yesterday... Now... I just wanted to write that it didn't start anyway... and now I just compiled again... and it ran. WEIRD!!! Played it till the "buy crash" One wish: Pleeaase (!) change the tune played on the main street!!!

Hey, compuscribe. The CS5 Trial helped... As far as i know, all the girls are now set up to load from image files rather than swf. So you shouldn't need to compile the girl's swf files now. Likewise the generic.swf in people. You do still need to build the assistants, people.swf and title_screen.swf. If any of them are in CS5 formt, it's a bug. One wish: Pleeaase (!) change the tune played on the main street!!! Do it yourself music/playlist.xml defines the music that plays on any given screen. You can add your mp3 files and edit the xml and bingo! new playlist.
