I'd offer to help maintain an SVN, but I know almost nothing about it. I guess I'd better start studying then! Hey doc, do you have any recommendations for places to learn about SVN?

well, the definitive work is the red book : svnbook.red-bean.com/ Possibly a little dry, but everything you'll ever need is in there somewhere. Tortoise SVN is my choice for a windows client. The docs there are probably worth looking at as well: tortoisesvn.net/support.html

Hey Daisy, did you ever set up a google group? I think i remember reading about it last time svn was brought up, but can't seem find the thread/link.

- If/when Doc gets the chance, I guess he could take a quick look and see if the way you uploaded things was correct. From a novices eyes, everything seems to be in order. I do need to spend more time learning the nuances behind the different places however.
- Maybe with the next open source release, try and upload again to the google page.
- Add Doc (and at some point me) as member?

It looks fine apart from the project folder which is a little messed up. It's somehow got a leading space on the folder name, and daisy's username tagged onto the end. Easy fixed if you want to add me to the group. Once that's done, and you've got a checked out working copy, updating the code should be pretty simple.

So I'm still getting myself familiar with tortoise, but so far I've installed it and pointed a folder to the google code page and "checked-out" a copy (I think. It successfully downloaded the files from the project). Is there anything I've forgotten to do?
I assume I need to be added to the project in order to do commits right? So as soon as I get added I can test committing the 'new years open source'.

The trouble is, it's those other things that I can't change. In particular, I can't drag an unequipped item out of the inventory to equip it on her, even if it's for a non-locked slot.

Thinking about panning and sound, here's a modified version of the title screen that demos both. It's just the swf and the music file - but the mp3 pads it out to around 2meg. There's also a bug in the pan manager somewhere - the foreground has been known to drift slowly offscreen as you pan, and it may still have issues with unexpected aspect ratios. www.mediafire.com/?tjmcb6txmtoyvl6

I like it doc. just make the sound turn off able and maybe have the background pan back and forth slowly on its own not interactable.

Sound is going to be a separte d/l - an add on, so people who don't want it don't have to have it. I've also asked redcape to do the graphics for a mute/volume control for the top bar.
Why panning by itself? I'm not averse to the idea, just curious.

It would help with it reaching the pics edge and showing white mostly.

That's a bug. It's what I meant by trouble with aspect ratios. Play it in adobe flash player and you never see the edges of the graphic. Play it in firefox on widescreen monitor and you do. It needs fixing.
Auto-panning wouldn't help, either. The current algorithm isn't supposed to go outside the bounds of the background image. if I automate it as it stands, it'll fail in the same way.

Yeah, unless you go out of your way to designate specific dimensions for the SWF file (which would require an HTML document to frame everything), Flash has an annoying habit of showing you as much as will fit on screen, even if it exists "off stage" and should, technically, never be visible. (The same thing happens in Flash Player, if you try maximizing the window or resizing it to a different aspect ratio. You can suddenly see outside the "movie.") It's worth noting, however, that even at it's default dimensions, if you scroll all the way to the left, a tiny sliver of white shows up, most noticeably next to the grassy part of the image.
The only real issue I see (that isn't linked to a quirk of Flash) is probably only relevant because of the specific example chosen. If it was an actual, in-game example, and not a simple mock-up using the title screen, the foreground scrolling wouldn't be as big an issue, but having the title and buttons move around is rarely a good idea. (Having a moving target, even a slow-moving one, for menu options is just asking for trouble.) As long as it's just a proof-of-concept, it's fine, but I wouldn't use this for the actual title screen.
