I was kicking this around on the chat yesterday, thought I'd write it up here.
I'd like to add a new district to the game. It's the part of Magmell closest to the Pit, right by a spot where all the techno junk tends to accumulate for some unknown reason. They call the district Scrapyard; home to a few exiled technologists and a lot of battered, malfunctional robots. It is something of a rough neighbourhood.
At the moment, Scrapyard has a shop and a couple of minor factions.
The shop is Nutz and Boltszz, and the proprietress is a beat-up and irascible gynoid called Szzuzanne. She buys and sells technological and steampunk items and is probably the person to talk to if you want to robotify your maid, or get a cyborg implant. If she can't do it, she can set it up. She's also got a long list of putdowns if the player asks to have sex with her
"You wouldn't like it - I've got a nasty short circuit down there"
"No problem - just let me cut out your brain so I can virus-scan it"
And so on.
The minor factions are the Robots and The Guild of Technologists.
The robots are more of a street gang than anything else. You can't really join them (at least not without some major surgery) but there's probably going to be the odd quest going through there. They'll buy girls, but they only pay "what the meat's worth".
The Guild of Technologists (better known to most of Magmell as the Mad Scientists) are a joinable faction. They'd be the source for the Pheromone bombing quest discussed elsewhere. In general a good place for perversions of science.
As I say, it's a rough neighbourhood. You can expect maimed robots to try and shake you down for coin or batteries, and it's not unknown for gangs of robots to attack and kill organic visitors ("squishers") and sell the meat on to Magmell's less scrupulous traders. (It's also rumoured that the Mad Scientists buy human organs if they're fresh and in good condition.
In general, I see technology in Magmel as being a bit like magic in this one. On the whole it don't work, and when it does, it don't work like it's supposed to, or at least not very well. That pretty much sets the tone for Scrapyard.
